Useful tips to protect yourself from fraud

Your vacation should be an amazing experience that will encourage you to come back again and again to that resort or destination that captivated you so much. To make sure you have the best time, it is very crucial for us to caution you about potential scams that you could run into both before, during, and after your vacation.

There are illegal companies claiming to offer services in the name of your vacation club at a discounted price. They may try to contact you through various methods, including the internet, social media, phone calls, or face-to-face. Be very cautious because, in some cases, they may be a scam.

How do illegal businesses operate?

Sometimes a law firm might reach out to you unexpectedly with assistance you did not request. Additionally, there are businesses devoted to reselling travel experiences or vacation packages for less than their typical cost. Remember that if something looks too good to be real, it probably isn’t.

In the most dire situation, there are dishonest businesses that make you believe the company you have a contract with has transferred rights to another brand, which then tries to pressure you into providing confidential data or making a payment that isn’t yours.

These fake companies copy logos and electronic signatures and other government institutions. Furthermore, they claim to be part of the collection, reservations, legal department, or affiliated companies.

Tips to avoid becoming a victim of fraud

As a member of our Vacation Club at Velas Resorts we share with you some suggestions to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime:

1. Email

It is necessary to ensure all communication related to the company must come from an email formed by the executive or department name plus the domain @velasresorts.com

Any alteration in our web address, such as an additional point or hyphen, tells us that the email is not legitimate. Please contact us immediately by telephone and also message legitimate info@velasresorts.com so our legal team can alert the appropriate authorities.

2. Website

The same happens with the information that you visualize on the internet. Our official website is velasresorts.com, and you will find all the information you are looking for there. Any variation in the number of characters or signs that change the original address must be considered a fake website.

3. Financial information

No legitimate company, such as Velas Resorts, will ever ask for personal or financial information regarding your Vacation Club membership. All fee and service payments are made through credit card; the company will never store, collect or use your personal information for any unauthorized purpose.

4. Social media

Cybercriminals are rampant these days, so be sure to avoid sharing personal information on social media, forums, or private groups. By doing this, your data will be exposed, and it will be more likely that illegitimate companies will use it.

Our Vacation Club has an official WhatsApp account, in case you wish to get in touch with us through this platform. The number is +52 322 226 7945. Additionally, it’s crucial to highlight that this is a verified account, which you can confirm by the green badge that will appear next to the account name when you open a chat with the company. This way, you can be confident that your information is secure.

5. Bank details

To prevent fraud, it is important that you only put your membership fees into the designated bank account that is shown on your receipt or invoice. Do not deposit your money anywhere else!

If you believe you have been a victim of fraud, report it to legalinfo@velasresorts.com

We will contact you as soon as possible!
