Since our founding 35 years ago, Velas Vallarta has been a pioneer in responsible tourism in Puerto Vallarta. One of the core philosophies is that it’s always possible to offer quality service while protecting the environment and strengthening the community around us.
Our work has been supported by prestigious international certifications like EarthCheck (formerly Green Globe). Furthermore, we were the first hotel in the city to receive the “Distintivo S” (S Distinction), awarded by SECTUR (Secretary of Tourism), at a time when sustainability was just beginning to become a relevant topic. These recognitions are not just badges; they translate into concrete actions that our valuable partners can see and experience:
- Reducing energy consumption and saving on costs by using solar panels.
- Ensuring responsible water use through efficient systems, together with SEAPAL (Puerto Vallarta’s Potable Water, Sewerage, and Drainage System).
- Preserving public spaces and currently partnering with the ‘Padre Aldama’ Elderly Care Home.
The award ceremony
Recently, as part of the commemoration of International Tourism Day, the Puerto Vallarta City Council honored seven companies in the tourism sector for their commitment to sustainability, including Velas Vallarta.
The ceremony was the prelude to a conference by sustainability specialist Francisco Suárez Hernández, who emphasized that sustainability goes beyond recycling and involves productive processes, labor practices, and supply chains that respect the environment and strengthen local communities. The award was presented by Francisco Suárez himself and Alejandra Cornejo, Director of Economic Promotion and Municipal Tourism, in the presence of sector representatives and authorities, including Lucía Leyva Luna from the Tourism Trust.
This remarkable achievement has been possible thanks to the support and vision of all our executives and collaborators, who from the beginning have been a fundamental pillar in this journey of responsibility and commitment. Their trust and participation have allowed us to consolidate a model in which investment, tourism, and sustainability converge in perfect balance. Velas Vallarta is a reminder of our responsibility and the pride of Vallarta, demonstrating that we can be a driving force for development without neglecting the environment and society.
